Quality Education and a Skilled and Educated Workforce

Education is the foundation of opportunity — not just for individual students, but for families, communities, and the future of our economy. Every child in Michigan’s 13th District deserves a quality education, no matter their ZIP code, income level, or background. That means reinvesting in our schools, rethinking how we support students, and creating multiple pathways to success.

We can build an education system that prepares the next generation to lead, innovate, and thrive. That starts with real investment and real access — from early education to lifelong learning. Here’s what we want to achieve for our students:

  • Reinvestment in school food programs, including universal school meals and support for Meet Up & Eat Up.
  • Increased funding for K–12 schools, especially in historically disinvested communities.
  • Modernization of school facilities and resources, including libraries, STEM labs, internet access, and building infrastructure.
  • Culturally responsive and inclusive curricula that reflect the diversity and history of all students.
  • Tuition-free community college and trade school options, so cost is never a barrier to opportunity.
  • Robust student loan forgiveness programs, to relieve the burden on those who sought higher education.
  • Expanded apprenticeship and workforce development programs, giving students more options beyond traditional college.
  • Real investments in school safety, including gun violence prevention efforts and mental health support — because every student deserves to feel safe in their classroom.
  • Host an annual School Superintendents Check-In at my District Office, to stay connected with educators, share resources, and ensure local voices shape education policy.

When we invest in education, we invest in our shared future. Every student — from preschoolers to adult learners — deserves the tools and support to succeed.
