Immigration and Citizenship Pathways

As an immigrant myself, I understand the challenges of building a life in a new country — navigating unfamiliar systems, embracing new traditions, and finding a way to honor both where you came from and where you’re going. That experience drives my belief that America’s immigration policies must be fair, humane, and grounded in reality.

Immigration is not just a political issue — it’s a human one. Beyond the headlines, both Republicans and Democrats understand that immigrants are a vital part of our economy and our communities. They are the hidden backbone of so many parts of American life — from healthcare to education to innovation. A more welcoming America is possible. This is what we will fight for:
• Create a real pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who contribute to our country every day.
• Ensure humane treatment and access to legal support at the border, so our policies reflect our values, not just our politics.
• Faster legal immigration processing, so people aren’t waiting years to reunite with family or fill jobs we need.
• No family separations – ever – it’s not who we are.
• Reinstating and strengthening the TPS (Temporary Protected Status) program, to protect people from countries facing war, disaster, or political collapse.
• Fully restoring refugee resettlement programs, so the U.S. can continue to offer safe haven to those fleeing persecution, climate change, and violence.
• Protect and expand programs like DACA that provide stability to hundreds of thousands.
• Defend the right to protest and speak freely, whether citizens or visa holders — because our democracy is strong enough to handle different views.
• Host an annual Immigrant Community Check-In Day at my District Office to provide direct services, listen to concerns, and make sure no one navigating the immigration system feels forgotten.

Immigrants are not outsiders — we are neighbors, coworkers, caregivers, small business owners, students, and friends. In Michigan’s 13th District, we know that welcoming newcomers doesn’t take anything away — it adds to who we are. I will work every day to ensure our laws reflect that truth.
